To all: Looks like a perfect choice to head up the Phase 2 HspE7 trial against anal dysplasia. J Palefsky describes his research at UCSF:

My laboratory focuses on the mechanisms by which DNA tumor viruses, i.e. human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) interact with epithelial cells to promote the development of epithelial neoplasia. At the clinical level, our work on HPV focuses on HPV infection in immunocompromised host and its role in the pathogenesis of anal, cervical and oral cancer. At a basic level, we are currently characterizing mechanisms of T cell immunity to HPV, and are developing an in-vitro model of tumor cell invasion by HPV-transformed epithelial cells. This work includes identification of proteases, autocrine and paracrine factors involved in cell invasion and the molecular mechanisms by which HPV cellular genes contribute to this process.
