Surf - If you navigate further into the site, under "Partners" you'll find Wi-LAN. So, they would be reselling Wi-LAN products, and as such, I don't think they would be paying royalties. BUT if, in the future, someone (Brand X) made WOFDM equipment, and sold it, they would be paying royalties to Wi-LAN. I have yet to hear any response to my earlier posts and links about Telia's plans for the move to the US market - and I may be wrong - but I strongly suspect that Wi-LAN and WOFDM will play a part in that. Basically, Telia will be buying a fibre pair, and laying down a network by the end of 2000, roughly. Given Telia's strong (re)commitment to WOFDM, Wi-LAN's plans to lower ASIC and transceiver cost, the high cost of bandwidth, and the cheapness of going into the ISM band - my guess is that Telia is going to go into the States, buy the fibre backbone, and establish a WOFDM wireless network for a fraction of the cost for others, with bandwidth to satisfy many users. Down and dirty, quick and easy, no fuss, no muss, and with bleeding-edge technology. This is pure speculation. Nevertheless, if it's true, I'm guessing that is when Wi-LAN will list on NASDAQ. The point is, that if the readers on this thread want a timeline for Wi-LAN's maturation (and stock price) - this is as good a guess as I have. Rambling again! Regards, JK |
