Ladies and Gentlemen:
I'm pleased to report the results of the sixth period (first half) of the Loral price prediction pool. Most of you will recall we started this pool in April to commemorate the first anniversary of our April 21, 1998 all time high. 66 entries were submitted predicting the high/low/close for the one year period to end April 21, 2000. Winner will be the entry with the lowest sum of the absolute value of error in each of the h/l/c predicts. As of 10/21, our h/l/c is 22.875/15.81/15.81
Overall, we were down 10% in the latest month and at the contest low notwithstanding a remarkable string of successful launches (eleven satellites on five launch vehicles from three launch sites) and the long awaited G* service launch at Geneva Telecom. In the six months since starting the contest, we are also down 10%; during this period Loral successfully launched (or acquired, in the case of Apstar III) three GEO spacecraft and 24 Globalstar spacecraft.
During the last month Loral underperformed G*(-6.1%), GMH (+20.5%) and SPOT (+4.5%) as well as the DOW(-2.7%) and NASDAQ (+0.7%.). Since the contest start, Loral's 10% loss is worse GMH(+28.1%), SPOT (+32.2%), GSTRF (+24.4%) the DOW (-2.7%) and the NASDAQ (+12.6%). The only change in the relative contest standings was the advancement of short SofLD from 4th to 3rd place. Mr. Proofsheet remains in first place and a close of below 14 7/8 or above 26 ¾ is required to change that.
