Hitachi Cable Ltd. - Compound Semiconductors hitachi-cable.co.jp Tokyo, 9/16/99 - Hitachi Cable's new GaAs factory now has started its production. One of the three products on which they will focus is: MOVPE wafers for high frequency devices such as metal semiconductor field effect transistor (MES-FET), pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (P-HEMT), double hetero high electron mobility transistor (DH-HEMT) and hetero junction bipolar transistor (HBT). Our current capacity is equivalent to 8000 4-inch wafers per month and will increase to 12,000 wafers per month in the next phase, which includes the increase of 5 and 6 inch wafers. Kopin's expanded production capacity will approach 200,000 4-inch wafers and 50,000 6-inch wafers per year by the end of next year. So, Hitachi's capacity will be roughly three-fourths that of Kopin.
