when a person bets on the nose and the horse comes in first, i'm going to go with there was some skill, somewhere, in some amount. <g3> maybe the skill lies only in not being afraid to bet to win. or to listen to your hunch. or in fact to read the past performance charts. sometimes i've made money cause i was not scared off by the tote board. for instance, i want to bet the 6 to win and his odds keep going up until he is listed at, gasp, 20-1. the question becomes, can i stick to my plan or am i influenced by what looks like unanimous rejection by the rest of the betting public? hehehe.

as you know, there are a multitude of factors impacting how one fares at the track. and despite whatever points one cares to make about handicapping track variants and distances and weights... you still need to be lucky to make money.

don't you agree?

:)
