Although many afternoons when I came home from school there was nobody there both my sister and I had our chores to do and we knew damn well that when mom and dad got home they had better be done. . My parents never took the easy way out..... If we misbehaved there was always the dreaded "wooden spoon" which both my sister and I knew could be used as a switch across the fanny. Funny I hardly ever remember getting it but the threat sure kept us in line. When I was about 10 one morning my dad came to school to get me out for a dentist appointment. As I got in the family car he informed me no dentist ....We were going fishing. I remember him time after time going to the water department to rescue my fishing rod that had been confiscated for sneaking into the Oradell Reservoir.Followed by the tongue in cheek lecture not to get caught next time. But I always knew there would be no "lecture" had I been caught stealing or involved in anything serious and heaven help me If I ever hit my sister...."You do not hit girls!" You see my friend Working parents does not have to mean lack of involvement.Only disinterested parents means lack of involvement! Perhaps this has more to do with current high crime rates in young people today....or not. The culture has changed, the entire environment is different today.The media continually hits us with what is bad is good, OJ walks ,huge profits in drugs, the president lies.....opps.... bad example on that one. But you get the picture. I just don't buy this heavy duty psycho bull that hasn't a shred of evidence to support it. pez
