My sources concur with you on this one. Design (not process) contacts within Intel tell me that CuMine will probably peak somewhere in the 900MHz range on 0.18 - 1GHz is seen as unlikely.

I believe the solution is CuMine+, a core further optimized for speed, probably getting another 100 MHz or so.

For the people who have been watching this MHz war, it should be very clear that a lot of interesting solutions have been used by both Intel and AMD to stretch this war to the limits. We have already seen things such as voltage increases, hybrid processes, tightened speed paths and I am sure we will see a few more. So, it is definitely hard to estimate how far these things are going to be pushed.

Whatever the push, it seems that for most people it is abundantly clear that Athlon has a very compelling advantage and it will take a pretty major mess-up from AMD to lose this battle - this hasn't happened so far.
