Allen invests $20 million in Fatbrain

Vulcan Ventures Inc., the Bellevue-based investment vehicle of billionaire Paul Allen, will invest $20 million in Fatbrain.com Inc. to help bolster the online technology bookseller's Internet publishing venture.

Vulcan will buy unregistered common shares for 110 percent of the five-day average closing price of Fatbrain.com's shares through last Friday, or about $20.88 each. Vulcan will also purchase warrants at 125 percent of the initial purchase price.

Diane Daggatt, a new media analyst at Vulcan, will join the board of Sunnydale, Calif.-based Fatbrain.com. The agreement allows for up to $10 million of additional investment.
