But what about from a market perspective? One controls the technology, getting a royalty for each phone sold - protected turf if one wants to use the technology. The other sells a product, that any mfg can compete with, where pricing is competitive, one must stay at least a step ahead of the competition and with margins compressing each quarter.

Both a great companies, but are viewed differently in the marketplace.
