Nancy, I do not want to be a pest, but the official meal of Texas starts out with a chicken fried steak and cream gravy, with french fries and Texas toast(about 3/4" thick).
Also, tell your Israeli friend that the Alamo was not, really, a loss. Had those 187 brave men not detained Santa Ana for that length of time, Sam Houston could not have gathered the army enough to give the Mexican army a good fight. Those 2,000 US troops, sent by Andy Jackson,just across the Sabine river didn't hurt either, although no one really knows if they were needed or not. Because of siesta time, I don't think so.
