Rappin and all,

IDX was in the UK news... sort of... I think... well ok, Key Tronic is... Funny how Digital Persona can get its' name into a story...
This story is part of series "Security checks are simplified by software that identifies physical characteristics", which is from the-times.co.uk just in case you want to see it all. Lead article is about facial stuff.

CRIMINALS beware, the biometric
keyboard is here, writes Ray Hatley.

The latest gadget for the
security-conscious computer user is a
fully featured Secure Scanner keyboard,
manufactured by Key Tronic Secure
Products.

It costs just £149 and comes complete
with fingerprint recognition software.

This keyboard is not really designed for
the average home-user, but it does look
as if it might provide another level of
security for system administrators and
people who hold sensitive data on their
computers.

Any person attempting to use a computer
fitted with the Secure Scanner keyboard
has his or her fingerprint scanned as part
of the log-on process.

The data is cross-matched to a user
database, where the fingerprint has to
match a registered user's ID before
access can be authorised.

A similar multi-language biometric
system, called U Are U, is produced by
Digital Persona Inc, a company based in
California.

The system utilises a stand-alone
fingerprint scanner and some nifty
software that makes sure that U really
are U before it lets you in.
