Maintaining the megahertz lead IS about marketing. AMD has still some way to go in convincing all the consumers out there that they should buy Athlons. If AMD can announce the 750 shortly after Intel's 733 then the headlines will be

"AMD once again beat Intel to the post and retain the title of fastest processor in the world"

The alternatives are headlines that read

"AMD's moment of glory is over as Intel regain the title..."

This is not about a mere 13 megahertz. It is about a monumental amount of free publicity for whoever plays the trump card at this stage.
