I think EMC is a gorilla, and not a royalty game.

I have implemented EMC SAN's, and it is the software that is critical in the whole installation

1-Totally proprietary

2-High switching costs to move to another SAN architecture (MSFT-like API's code for applications)

3- Storage tornado in full form

4- High margins (a la cisco)

5- Value vhain building with add-on applications and services like OpenView (NMS) integrating in SMC's hardware and software

Stupid CNBC shows them with Seagate, Maxtor and Quantum. Idiots.

If MSFT & SERVER vendors keep on integrating EMC's platform software, it will particuipate in THEIR gorilla game and tornados.

Have I missed anything here ?

Thx and welcome back Mike
we missed your excellent, well-written and thoughtful posts

take care
Jean
