A postscript, because I see that you and I see Sidney differently, and I want Sidney to know I have appreciated how invariably nice he's been to me, personally, even noting, I think, when I could especially use some kindness; and that's in spite of our disagreeing so profoundly on so many things, most obviously on the existence of God. I would be happy to have Sidney as a friend or neighbor or member of my family; and if he has gotten pissed at one time or another, I suspect it wasn't very viciously. If Sidney is accused of saying something like that Del "hated the concept of a God," although I've never thought of it that way, just on principle, I'd be willing to say I could get behind that idea myself even if Del couldn't; and I wouldn't be offended if Sidney accused me of it, as long as we got our definitions clear. I sure do "hate the concept" of a vindictive God who absolutely insists on being worshipped and is into eternal, cruel punishment of His imperfect creations, although He was, oddly, omnipotent at the time He created them.
But that's just being provocative to make the point that if that is what Sidney is accused of saying of somebody, I'll take the accusation myself, and still say Sidney has been a generally lovely presence here, in my opinion. I feel I owe him. |
