<< I sure do "hate the concept" of a vindictive God who absolutely insists on being worshipped and is into eternal, cruel punishment of His imperfect creations, although He was, oddly, omnipotent at the time He created them. >>

Now there you go again, E. I was going to lay off picking on religion for a while, but you got me thinking about an article that I read a few days ago about what a Catholic cardinal said on rebuilding a Los Angeles cathedral with the use of anti-earthquake techniques. He said that earthquakes are an act of nature, not an act of God.

Huh? Let's see. God created the Earth, but didn't realize that there would be earthquakes? The Creator of the entire Universe and it's physical laws can't do anything about earthquakes? How about tornadoes, flash floods, lightning, volcanoes and hurricanes? And if he is powerless to do anything about these things, why do people bother praying to him to stop or modify these events?

What is the consensus of the believers out there? Did God knowingly create an Earth with earthquakes, etc.?
