Telstra and Harbinger Form Global E-Commerce Partnership
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 25, 1999--Telstra Development, LLC, the U.S.-based e-commerce division of Telstra Corporation Limited (NYSE:TLS - news), one of the world's leading electronic communications and information services providers, and Harbinger Corporation (NASDAQ: HRBC - news), a worldwide supplier of Electronic Commerce software, services and solutions, today jointly announced that they are expanding their existing relationship to form a global e-commerce partnership.
Under the newly signed agreements, Telstra will utilize harbinger.net technologies and services for Telstra's recently announced Open Commerce Platform (OCP). The two companies will also co-develop enhancements to extend the capabilities of the OCP and accelerate global deployment of these capabilities for business-to-business electronic commerce. The agreement includes provisions for Harbinger to deliver operations support for Telstra's OCP and for Telstra to become a worldwide distributor for an array of Harbinger Internet products and services.
``Telstra's partnership with Harbinger demonstrates our commitment to provide a world-class e-commerce procurement solution by joining Telstra capabilities with those of our premier solution providers,' said Andrew Manning, president and CEO, Telstra Development. ``By leveraging Telstra's OCP capabilities with Harbinger's back-office application and software product suite, Telstra customers will continue to enjoy the benefits of an open e-commerce architecture, connecting multiple front and back ends. The ability to participate in digital marketplaces will be a critical need for Telstra customers going forward, and Telstra intends to be a leading force in building and managing these marketplaces worldwide.'
This joint effort will help Telstra customers experience true e-commerce benefits by speeding the ``time to market' for new business to business applications and services that streamline the procurement cycle. Telstra's expansion of its worldwide e-commerce procurement business has driven the company to seek out partnerships with other best-in-class industry leaders, allowing Telstra to build on its global presence, ability to provide connectivity between trading partners, and clear vision of electronic communications.
The relationship with Harbinger, which began in early 1998, has strengthened over the past year. Now with these new agreements, Telstra's OCP technology will be more closely integrated and able to capitalize on harbinger.net technology.
``Telstra has global presence and significant experience in key areas, including the emerging B2B E-Commerce marketplace. We believe coupling these capabilities and experience with their commitment to utilize harbinger.net will create a formula for success for both companies ,' said C. Tycho Howle, Harbinger Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. ``From Harbinger's perspective, Telstra quickly provides Harbinger with global reach, particularly in Asia Pacific. Further, the expanded agreement represents one of the most significant and comprehensive relationships that Harbinger has ever entered into. We are pleased to have Telstra as a key partner supporting a fundamental component of our corporate strategy, harbinger.net.'
Telstra's OCP is the foundation for existing and forthcoming Telstra e-commerce applications. The OCP transparently and non-intrusively expands the trading partner community by providing the connectivity to successfully implement business-to-business procurement solutions. The platform has an open and scalable architecture that allows multiple front and back-end interfaces and supports a variety of messaging protocols.
