I don't agree that the news was negative this morning. As for the negative comment - it was (a) rehashed guesses/opinion (b) analysts like Kumar who recommended CPQ as a buy at $42, $35 ("it can't go much lower") and then $25 putting out a few words to cover themselves should their recommendations prove dud, again.

But I agree, given current anxieties, the net market effect could be negative. If it is, COMPAQ may become a basement bargain buying opportunity soon.
