JAPAN'S SEP PRELIM COPPER, ALUMINUM, GOLD IMPORTS UP ON YR Tokyo--Oct 25--Japan's customs-cleared imports of non-monetary gold jumped 247.6% on year in September to a preliminary 19.4 tonnes, the Ministry of Finance announced today. Imports of copper and its alloys rose by 12.6% on year in September to a preliminary 21,718 tonnes, while imports of aluminum and its alloys also rose 33.1% to 256,371 tonnes, the ministry said. GHANA'S GOVERNMENT EVALUATING LONMIN, ASHANTI MERGER PROPOSALS Accra, Ghana--Oct 22--The Ghanaian government, fresh from talks with Lonmin, say it is evaluating proposals from the London-based company on a merger with the beleaguered Ashanti Goldfields Company.
