The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition that the end is in sight for selective disclosure in the financial markets. The Markets columnist Barbara Aarsteinsen says that companies' practice of limiting conference calls to analysts and big investors is increasingly coming under fire. Ms. Aarsteinsen says that this week, Seagram once again excluded the lesser orders from a conference call to discuss its fiscal first quarter. The Montreal-based entertainment and liquor giant allowed only analysts and large investors in on a more detailed analysis of its results, excluding the likes of journalists like Ms. Aarsteinsen from getting what many may perceive as an inside scoop. Ms. Aarsteinsen says the questionable practice known euphemistically as "selective disclosure" is a neutral phrase to mask the ugly truth that some investors are more important than others. She says that in mid-September, Intrawest refused to let her in on a conference call with analysts.
