Zicam Trial- Final Analysis

Well, I'm back from my hunting trip, my bottle of Zicam is nearly empty and- guess what- I still have a cold. I faithfully stuck to the regime all weekend long but it would appear that my cold has progressed along a normal path. Not only did Zicam NOT cure my cold but it did not even curb the symptoms as far as I can tell. I finally gave up using it as of today (day 7).

The thing that really convinced me that Zicam was having no effect on my cold was the fact that two of my hunting buddies, who also had colds and did not use Zicam, were affected at different levels than I. One guy had come down with his cold about the same time as I did but was only suffering from minor nasal congestion. He didn't seem to be affected by any chest congestion or fatigue. The other guy, however, was suffering from nasal congestion, chest congestion, and fatigue, just like I was. The probability is high that we were all suffering from the same pathogenic strain since the first guy to get sick was at my camp over a week ago with the rest of use when he initially became ill. It just goes to show you that everybody reacts differently to the same illness. If I had been like the guy with only minor nasal congestion, I might have erroneously concluded that Zicam had moderated my cold symptoms, even though it may not have cured it completely.

The bottom line here is that Zicam did not work for me- at all. I can only assume that there are a lot of other people out there for whom Zicam will fail to work. Given the expense and aggravation associated with using this product, I wouldn't bother trying it again nor would I recommend it to anyone. I know none of you will change your outlook on Zicam based on what I've said. However, the fact that Zicam obviously does not work for everyone means that any clinical data generated on this product should be closely scrutinized. I will be surprised if this product ever becomes anything more than a flash in the pan.
