The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition that beleagured Doman Industries
president Herb Doman proved this week he is back on top as the coast's best
lumber producer with a quarter-by-quarter increase in lumber earnings that beat
rivals MacMillan Bloedel and International Forest Products. Reporter Gordon
Hamilton says that Doman earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and
amortization climbed to $51.6-million, almost triple the results for the second quarter
and for the same period last year, when its EBITDA was $17.9-million and
$18.9-million respectively. Doman says it is covering its interest payments by more
than 1.5 times. The company says this is a big change, as it had negative EBITDA
in the first quarter, $17.9-million in the second quarter and $51.6-million in the third
quarter. If only Doman could make a net profit, Herb Doman might get the equity
markets interested again in the company's stock, which has been languishing at the
$2 level for more than a year.
