These guys do seem to have a real--and apparently good--biotech company. This just may be something they do for fun in their spare time. I'm not a techie, but it seems to me that generating smells over telephone lines is not possible. Unless the "peripheral" they describe actually contained the necessary components, which of course would have to be refreshed occasionally. In that case the computer would only be ordering the peripheral to release whatever scent had been requested.
