Combined Technologies to Enable Suite of Synergistic Network Services
for e-Business, Enterprises and Internet Service Providers
Mirror Image Internet, a subsidiary of The Scandinavia Company (AMEX: SCF - news) and a leading network infrastructure company that speeds up the Internet, and Inktomi Corporation (NASDAQ: INKT - news), a developer of scalable software designed for the world's Internet infrastructure and media companies, today announced an agreement to integrate Inktomi technology into the Mirror Image suite of instaDelivery(SM) Internet Services.
The Mirror Image instaDelivery Internet Services are capable of delivering Internet content at rates up to ten times faster than traditional traffic flow. Utilizing Mirror Image's unique service architecture and technologies, instaDelivery can apply these benefits to over 75 percent of network traffic. The services include: instaContent(SM) global content distribution services, designed to significantly increase download speeds for e-business and Internet Content Providers; instaStream(SM) audio & video services enabling content providers and access providers to serve high-quality streaming media over the Internet; and instaSpeed(SM) outsourced caching services, which eliminate the need for costly infrastructure investments while delivering superior performance and scalability for large Internet Service Providers. The companies will jointly promote the new services and additionally will cooperate on technology to drive further innovations.
``Mirror Image Internet is the only company to offer a complete suite of content distribution and outsourced caching services on the same cost-effective network infrastructure,' said Paul Gauthier, chief technology officer of Inktomi. ``By choosing to complement their own patented technology with the Traffic Server network caching platform and the Inktomi Content Delivery Suite, Mirror Image will have a best-in-class solution that will be very attractive to both content and service providers.'
Additionally, the installed base of Inktomi Traffic Servers is now fully interoperable with the Mirror Image instaSpeed Booster Service, allowing service providers running Inktomi Traffic Server to enhance their performance by connecting their caches into second level caching capability in the Mirror Image Network. Mirror Image and Inktomi are also working with other industry leaders to contribute to open Internet standards for communication between caches and servers.
``This alliance is another major step forward in our quest to eliminate the 'world wide wait,' said David Wu, president of Mirror Image Internet, Inc. ``The combination of Inktomi's scalable software solutions and our patented technology and intelligent global network is unbeatable. We will continue to expand our network to provide high-quality Internet content delivery services reaching everyone, everywhere.'
