Rudedog... Saying "It's Over" about a company the size of CPQ is indeed silly... I was pressed for time and didn't have time to go into more detail and thought I would do a WBM style post...:-) Looking at the past post you attached to the response you sent to me it's clear that you have your finger squarely on the pulse of the sector... I disagree however that CPQ is executing a well thought out plan to surrender PC market share. Why else would they have tried (and failed miserably) to copy DELL's direct model (they have now reversed themselves)... It looked to me that they were desperate to compete but finally did the right thing in dumping EP and going back to the drawing board... I haven't done the kind of in depth analysis that you have on CPQ but I do read everything I can find on the PC sector and my general opinion is that CPQ is the worst run Mega Corp. in the U.S.... they cook the numbers, stuff the channel, paid way too much for Digital and don't have a clue as to how to integrate it, blundered big time with the Altavista deal, shopping.Com, and on and on and on... And the worst thing about it all is that it's built around an obsolete business model, i.e. inventory, resellers... I also think they make an inferior product and back it up with worse service... It may not be "OVER" but like H. Greenberg's article quoted... it is unlikely that CPQ will ever rebound fully from it's near death experience... they may eventually get their act together but IMO it will be way too late to rise to the levels they were at in the past... I know it is silly but Game, Set and Match to Dell... IMO Dell needs to be most wary of GTW... Regards BBG
