The Americans, British and Russians agreed to divide Germany up at the Yalta conference. Berlin was in the Russian zone so the western troops did not advance that far. There was no simultaneous advance into Berlin, the only troops in the Battle of Berlin were German and Russian. The Americans and Brits had stopped well short.
