People have aliases for many reasons. A lot of people who post on SI have jobs (some I would bet are public figures) in the tech sector. Do you think these people would like their personal / professional info posted? Some would lose their jobs if that happened. Privacy, from my experience, is taken very seriously on SI. I do not know the reason or real reason CB was terminated.
