MeDroogies: The WSJ referred to the average of a range of expectations that have been in the Street for two months. COMPAQ has said it is comfortable with the range or the average.

The average of the range is .05 cents per share profit BEFORE write-offs. The write-offs will be between $700-900 million.

The headline tomorrow will be COMPAQ declares huge loss but meets (or beats) analysts expectation of 5 cents a share before one time losses.

I would think COMPAQ will take the opportunity, if it can, to bring forward as much expenses and costs as possible to be covered by these write-offs, so that profits in subsequent quarters can look so much better.
