So far, Italy's Prada Challenge looks very strong. However, the two top U.S. syndicates -- AmericaOne and Young America -- also appear to be formidible contenders. Other than these three, it's hard to imagine any of the other eight syndicates posing a real challenge. However, one should never count out Dennis Connor, even though he looks underfunded. Some of the other teams look competitive, but my gut tells me the top three aforementioned teams are a league above the rest. Prada's wins over AmericaOne and Young America were extremely close, and ultimately resulted from gear failures. But there's little question that the Italian boat is quite fast.

Delays have forestalled the close of Round One. It's early, and we'll see if the rest of the series holds to form, or whether someone has some design surprises in store for rounds 2 & 3. Can't wait to see Cayard (AmericaOne)and Baird (Young America) square off in the final heat of Round One -- hopefully a forerunner for the finals of the Louis Vuitton Cup. <g>
