I'm struggling to understand "differentiated commodity". It seems to be an oxymoron. If an offering is differentiatable, wouldn't that mean it isn't a commodity? Gasoline, both brand names and grade. Why is Arco gas considered lesser quality than Exxon? Why is Circle K considered lesser quality than Chevron? Do you have a Tiger in your Tank? Do you use Super, Premium or Regular Unleaded? Why are those grades always 10 cents apart in price?
