MMC Networks and PMC-Sierra Collaborate on Compatible Optical Infrastructure Products

October 26, 1999 07:08 AM

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1999--Comprehensive Suite of Standard Product IC Solutions Will Enable More Rapid Development of Next-Generation Internet Access Equipment

MMC Networks (MMCN) and PMC-Sierra (PMCS) today announced a collaboration to develop a more complete solution for network equipment vendors building high bandwidth Internet edge and core applications.

As a result of the relationship, MMC will closely couple its packet processors to PMC-Sierra's broad family of broadband devices to provide integrated solutions for optical infrastructure applications.

In today's environment where time-to-market is paramount, the accelerated development and early introduction of next-generation Internet Access equipment relies on the availability of standard product IC solutions. The combined portfolio of products, resulting from the collaboration on a non-exclusive basis between MMC and PMC-Sierra, represents the most highly integrated and comprehensive standard product semiconductor solution for optical infrastructure available to networking equipment vendors today.

"MMC's AnyFlow 5500 and XPIF-300 Network Processors have already been successfully combined with PMC-Sierra's SONET/SDH physical layer components to provide packet and cell interfaces for multi-service platforms," said Doug Spreng, president and CEO, MMC Networks, Inc. "We are currently working with PMC-Sierra to develop multi-port channelized solutions and further refine our POS and ATM interfaces for next-generation Internet access switches, routers and access multiplexers."

"PMC-Sierra's relationship with MMC will allow our companies to provide customers with a more comprehensive, integrated solution," said Bob Bailey, president and CEO, PMC-Sierra, Inc. "By providing a suite of seamlessly compatible standard IC products, we can offer our customers a total optical infrastructure solution and reduce their time to market."
