Dr. Sami Aita reports
MedcomSoft has released its new, state-of-the-art health care electronic patient
medical record product EPMR2000, designed specifically for the United States
health care market.
This advanced software application features a new intelligent engine for the rapid
collection and communication of patient clinical information. This engine is
integrated with a fully codified medical nomenclature, Medicomp Systems Inc.'s,
MEDCIN, an extensive knowledge base and an artificial intelligence-based
decision support system.
Physicians and medical researchers alike both benefit from MedcomSoft's
incorporation of this standardized medical nomenclature. A unique interface that
has been released in EPMR2000 easily captures clinical data elements through the
implementation of tree navigation, expert system string searches, predefined
condition-specific and user-defined protocols, accelerator wizards and Intelligent
Prompting. Health care providers can easily record clinical data that is uniquely
coded and is, at the same time, cross-relevant to analogous clinical findings via the
integrated Artificial Intelligence-based Intelligent Prompting engine.
In addition, EPMR2000) features a sophisticated engine for automated U.S.
health care financing administration evaluation and management coding. HCFA
announced guidelines and published stringent requirements for health care
providers to follow when submitting claims in 1997. These guidelines that mandate
complete clinical documentation must be recorded for each patient visit and
accompanied by appropriate E&M procedure codes.
The rules and codes contained in this document are used to justify the level of
reimbursement requested when submitting claims. With the inclusion of our
standardized and intelligent clinical interface, health care providers are now
capable of documenting patient visits to the highest degree thereby suggesting the
highest possible code level for maximum reimbursement with reduced liability. This
benefit, by itself, constitutes a substantial and rapid payback to any investment
made by a provider in EPMR2000.
EPMR2000 supports full multimedia electronic medical records, open database
connectivity, and is optimized for Microsoft SQL 7. Health care providers are
now able to capture the lifelong medical record of a patient in a standardized way
and connect to service providers including laboratories, pharmacies and specialty
clinics.
"We are very pleased with the addition of EPMR2000 to our industry-leading
Canadian healthcare application, MedWorks, currently deployed in over 400
sites," said Dr. Sami Aita, chairman and chief executive officer of MedcomSoft
Inc. "We are very encouraged with the early response this new product is
receiving in the U.S., and our first site installation there is already scheduled for
early November. MedcomSoft will be releasing soon a number of additional
modules aimed at supporting multiple connectivity options including remote user
access and processing over the Internet, dial-up lines, and wireless local area
networks (LANs).
