RESEARCH ALERT - VoiceStream
target raised to $120

NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - PaineWebber said Tuesday
it raised its price target for VoiceStream Wireless Corp.
(NasdaqNM:VSTR - news) to $120 from $80.

-- Shares of VoiceStream were off 6-5/16 at 84-3/16 on the Nasdaq stock market.

-- PaineWebber said VoiceStream on Monday reported ''blowout quarterly results,'' with average revenue per unit (ARPU) of $60, which topped PaineWebber's estimate by $5 and increased by 23 percent from the prior year.

-- Third quarter net subscriber additions of 123,000 topped our estimate of 100,000.

-- The strong ARPU lead to lower than expected cash flow losses, despite the strong subscriber growth.

-- Our new cash flow per share estimates below reflect a new preliminary model which includes the consolidated estimates of the pending acquisitions of Omnipoint and Aerial.

-- PaineWebber estimates that VoiceStream's 1999 capital plan will rise to $350 million from $300 million based on its strong subscriber and usage growth (520 average minutes per month), which was previously increased from $150 million.

-- VoiceStream also said it would conduct a broad capital spending program to improve the networks of its target acquisitions before marketing those new properties with the VoiceStream brand. PaineWebber estimates more than $1 billion in 2000.

-- VoiceStream plans to add Motorola and Mitsubishi in the Christmas selling season to stem handset shortages.
