Watch out shorts! Earth-shaking news just in from Providence!
56% of Rhode Islanders Ready for Telco Change <LOAX.O>
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Reflecting increased competition
and value added customer service from Log On America (Nasdaq: LOAX), 56% of
Rhode Islanders surveyed said they would switch from Bell Atlantic as their
primary carrier. Log On America is a leading provider of high-speed Digital
Subscriber Line (DSL) services and voice technology in the Northeast Corridor.
Log On America offers bundled and individual telecommunications products,
including local dial-tone, instate toll calling, high speed Internet via DSL
and cable TV programming throughout the Northeast to commercial and
residential customers
David R. Paolo, Chairman and CEO of Log On America, said, "The explosive
growth Log On America continues to see in the Northeast corridor bears witness
to the survey's findings. We started offering integrated communications
solutions in 1992 because we clearly understood the priorities of business and
residential customers. Customers want the convenience of a local provider,
with the size and scale to meet all their communications needs. They are also
demanding the consolidated billing statements and high level of customer
service that Log On America is renowned for."
The survey findings of residential and business telephone customers was
released yesterday by University of Rhode Island, Research Institute for
Telecommunications and Information Marketing and funded by the Public
Utilities Commission.
The survey found that more customers want one company to deliver
telephone, Internet, wireless and cable television services. About 56 percent
of all residential customers and 30 percent of business customers said they
want a single provider.
The survey found 33 percent of residential customers and 43 percent of
business customers have changed their long-distance carrier and there is
substantial use of 10-10 dial-around long-distance services.
Residential customers were surveyed by phone in July, with 250 out of
810 people contacted responding to a six-page questionnaire. Businesses were
polled by mail, and 37 responses out of 400 sent out were usable.
