Company Press Release

Socket's Digital Phone Cards Now Available for
Sprint's PCS Network

Connection Kit for PCS Phones Adds Wireless Internet Access to
Windows CE-based Computers

NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1999--Socket Communications Inc. (OTC: Bulletin Board SCKT and
SCKTW; Pacific Stock Exchange SOK) today announced the first U.S. shipments of the Digital Phone Card Data Connection
Kit.

The Digital Phone Card is an energy-efficient plug-in card that offers universal connectivity between a data-capable PCS phone
and any mobile computer powered by Microsoft's (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) Windows CE, Windows 9x or Windows NT
operating systems. Mobile professionals within the coverage area of Sprint's (NYSE:FON - news) nationwide data service can
use the Digital Phone Card to convert their PCS phone into a wireless modem that can send and receive e-mail, connect to the
Internet or access their corporate network. The current version of the Digital Phone Card Data Connection Kit is compatible
with Qualcomm 2700 and 2700F handsets that have been enabled for data. These phones are available from Sprint. Additional
handset support will be made available.

The Digital Phone Card offers significant advantages over other connectivity options. The card's CompactFlash Type I form
factor allows users to insert it into the CompactFlash slot of any Windows CE-based Palm-size PC. A CompactFlash-to-PC
Card adapter included with the kit allows the card to be plugged into the PC Card slot of any Windows CE-based Handheld
PC or pen tablet or any Windows 9x/NT-based notebook.

An important benefit of Socket's Battery Friendly(TM) plug-in Digital Phone Card is that it conserves power, allowing users to
operate their digital phones up to twice as long as with other cabling schemes. In addition to offering longer operation, the
Digital Phone Card frees up a mobile computer's internal serial communications port. Socket's universal interface also eliminates
compatibility problems resulting from the variety of external serial port connectors built into Windows CE-based computers.
Conventional connection kits for Windows CE-based devices require two cables and a special adapter, making them
inconvenient for mobile professionals to set up and carry.

''Introducing the Digital Phone Card to the U.S. market is an important step for our company,'' said Peter Phillips, director of
product marketing for Socket. ''Sprint has taken the lead in building out a nationwide digital PCS network capable of
supporting data, and the Digital Phone Card Data Connection Kit allows users of any Windows-based mobile computer to
take advantage of this powerful new option for wireless connectivity.''

The Digital Phone Card Data Connection Kit (DPC Kit) is currently available for use with Qualcomm QCP-2700/2700F
digital PCS phones and includes a cable to connect the plug-in card to the phone. Support for additional phones is pending.
The DPC Kit can be purchased for $119.95 from Mobile Planet. To order, customers can call 1-800-675-2638 or order
on-line at www.MobilePlanet.com. For a current list of compatible phones, visit www.DigitalPhoneCard.com.
