It could be tax loss selling or it could be precious metal fund managers selling to meet redemptions since the price of gold is tanking and taking the gold stocks with it. There have to be some weak-kneed folks fleeing the metal funds, thus requiring remdemption selling. Personally, I would be quite reluctant to sell for tax reasons, since it looks like you could be selling at the low. I wouldn't want to wait 30 days to buy back in when the stock could be back in the mid-20's.
