One of my brothers is a Zen Buddhist, Zoltan. And he is given "koans" to ponder over by his Zen Master. The classic (most often quoted example) of such a koan is: "What is the sound of one hand clapping?"

You have to sit there, let it sort of stew in your mind (no analysis!!!), and come up with an understanding (not a "logical explanation") of what it means. If you get it wrong, your Zen Master may whack you upside the head (literally or metaphorically). You have to "sense" the answer, which more often that not (I gather) is as paradoxical sounding as the koan itself.
