I don't think it is just enlightenment, much as I would like to take credit for being enlightened. I think a great part of our abillity to deal with dissapointment (as in -I'm dissappointed there isn't an afterlife but I'll make the best of it) comes from our temperament and I believe we're born with that. Some of those starship folks even said something to the effect of "even if it isn't true there is nothing for me here." That is something I would never say as it is against my nature, but, like my inabillity to believe in things, I think I was born with it. Chipper and cheerfully agnostic, a rather rare birth defect.
