The problem is literally having the space to adequately show the product. Outside of this room, there is nowhere else in the store to demonstrate the rear projectors. This is not a "superstore" with unlimited space. It is a typical New York City store which has been in business for decades. To simulate higher room illumination, they can just show the projector with the lights on, rather than off.
