SEATTLE, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Active Voice Corporation (Nasdaq: ACVC), a world leader in PC-based voice processing, unified messaging, and computer telephony software solutions, today announced record revenues for its second fiscal quarter ended September 30, 1999.
Revenues for the quarter were a record $20.5 million, compared to $14.3 million for the same quarter in 1998, representing an increase of 43%. Net income was $193,000 or $0.04 per diluted share compared to a loss of $1.3 million or $0.28 per share, for the quarter ended September 30, 1998. "We are seeing strong revenue growth in our core products, especially in our strategic partner business reflecting our strategy of increasing market share by partnering with telephone switch manufacturers to provide affordable, feature-rich embedded and PC-based voice processing solutions," said Jose S. David, Active Voice's chief financial officer. "We also saw growth in Repartee sales in our dealer channel. Gross margins increased to 58.8% from 53.7% in the September 30, 1998 quarter because of an increased sales mix of software-only products. Expenses were in line with management's expectations," David added. "We are pleased about returning to profitability a quarter earlier than anticipated," said Frank J. Costa, Active Voice's president and chief executive officer. "Our largest customer continues to remain successful with its wide distribution of embedded and stand-alone voicemail systems. Another strategic partner, whose worldwide market share is larger, began shipping our jointly developed product this quarter. Our decision to take the long road and build a "true" unified messaging solution from the ground up is beginning to pay off," added Costa. Unity was recently selected by Windows NT Magazine as one of 5 "best of show" products at the Microsoft Exchange Conference 99 in Atlanta earlier this month, where the company was the first to demonstrate true unified messaging for Microsoft Exchange 2000, beta 3 (previously code-named "Platinum"). In addition, Computer Telephony Magazine named Unity the "Overall Winner" in their unified messaging review in this month's issue. The article covered an independent lab test and review of unified messaging solutions from Active Voice, Lucent, AVT and Key Voice. Unity 2.3, which features include international localizations, was recently demonstrated at the Telecom '99 Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
