ZapMe! Teams With Yahoo! to Offer Co-Branded ZapMe! My Yahoo! Start Page
Agreement Enables Teachers and Students to Personalize Learning Experience Through ZapMe! My Yahoo! Start Page
SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999-- ZapMe! Corporation (Nasdaq:IZAP - news), a provider of free PCs, educational content and satellite-delivered Internet access to middle and high schools nationwide, today announced an agreement with Yahoo!, Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news), a leading global Internet media company, to offer a package of co-branded online services to users of the ZapMe!(TM) netspace.
As part of the agreement, ZapMe! and Yahoo! have developed co-branded pages that showcase content and navigational features from both companies. The co-branded ''ZapMe! My Yahoo!®'' (http://zapme.my.yahoo.com) will be the home page displayed when students and teachers log in to the ZapMe! netspace. Students and teachers will be able to create and personalize their home pages by their interests in areas such as sports, news and weather from Yahoo! and have quick access to ZapMe!'s features including indices of educational content, student news and ZapMe!'s latest services.
''Our vision is to empower teens nationwide with the Internet tools and services they need to realize their full potential,'' said ZapMe! CEO Rick Inatome. ''A student's desire to learn doesn't stop when class ends. Through ZapMe! My Yahoo!, students can personalize pages to provide the information that's most relevant to them, even when classes are over. For example, a student writing a report on democracy can customize their page to feature daily news feeds of presidential election campaign analysis.''
Along with ZapMe!'s more than 10,000 reviewed and indexed educational sites, personal planning capabilities, Web tools and the Microsoft suite of applications offered on the ZapMe! netspace, students and teachers can utilize a number of newly integrated Yahoo! services. As a registered My Yahoo! user, the entire suite of Yahoo!'s free member services are available to ZapMe! users, including chat clubs, instant messaging, message boards, sports, news and more. Customized news and entertainment updates, and community tools, are also personalized through the ZapMe! My Yahoo! start page.
''This relationship is a natural fit since both Yahoo! and ZapMe! bring valuable online tools that make teens' lives easier in today's digital age,'' added Ellen Siminoff, Yahoo!'s senior vice president of corporate development. ''We're pleased to expand our services and content to ZapMe!'s rapidly growing student audience.''
