The Supreme Virtue

A stock trader's supreme virtue is not discipline, as is so often contended. Discipline is often stubbornness or inflexibility masquerading as strength of character. The supreme virtue - and probably the rarest - is patience. Patience for the long-term investor, who must learn that a year is but a fraction of a business cycle; patience for the intermediate or swing trader, who must learn that a day or a week does not make a trend; patience for the day trader, who must learn that a minute is not the hour it seems to be.
