MORE POSTING FROM OUR AAO poster:

Quick update from the AAO
before I leave today for home. Stopped by the Kera booth several times, and it was always crowded! I believe they have filled their training spaces until year end; my sales rep told me Monday that he had registered 25 doctors that day alone.
Went to the Intacs users meeting Monday which was well-attended. Mr. Loarie stated that the laser companies would like to be where KERA is today. They still can't make a completely aspheric cornea.
Yesterday, there was a good debate between 2 leading LASIK surgeons: Dr. Barraquer pro-lasik, and Dr. Chayet pro-Intacs. Even Dr. Barraquer stated she was "happy to have another way" to correct low myopia, and agreed that Intacs patients do get very good vision. Dr. Chayet presented a very convincing picture using the Dresden wave-form analysis of aberration profiles for Intacs and Lasik patients. The Intacs picture looked virtually identical to a normal eye, while the Lasik picture showed a splaying outward of the waveform dots. He showed his data which indicated that by 1 month post-op, Intacs patients see much better than Lasik patients (lasik was better on day 1). He finally noted that there are approximately 25 million myopes in the US who are 1-3 diopters, and only 10% of them wear contact lenses. He noted that even a small market penetration of this segment would be quite substantial for Intacs.
