So the ambivalence regarding using CPQ equipment is that the true fault tolerant machinery offered by CPQ can only be used if they are willing to do a major rewrite. Then they get to compare Alpha systems reliability with IBM systems reliability--- whose got the best record, Dec systems or IBM or are they about equally reliable. As I recall IBM mainframes were fragile in the mid-70s... I had the sense that DEC equipment was more secure and more reliable, but have no experience with any of it.
