With KIDE, as with GUMM, the signs were all there for those with the intelligence and guts to act on them. Early investors in KIDE made 20 times their money, and an unusual children's cartoon (the only concrete evidence of Pokemon at that point) is much more difficult to understand, as an investment opportunity, than a revolutionary cold remedy. KIDE didn't become a household name among retail investors until over a year after their first Pokemon press release, and 6-8 months after we on the KIDE SI thread got excited about it. GUMM is similarly unknown right now, but anyone betting against a small-investor frenzy no later than January must have a screw loose, IMO.
