Which only means that fewer died on the battlefield and more died elsewhere.

Arguable. But the Soviet and Chinese participation clearly made them part of the global struggle.

As for Truman, a detailed look makes him look far worse. Truman didn't expect or wasn't prepared for China or Stalin's moves in Eastern Europe. Everything he did subsequently were reactions to these his earlier mistakes.

Truman stands as easily the most over-rated president next to JFK.
