James, you forgot to mention the crossbar architecture, which is crucial to feeding those high-speed processors. All the SPECint's in the world don't help when you have to serve data from a disk.

And again, having a cheaper CPU is no advantage since the CPU is such a minor part of the overall system.

Its a threat to NT, and you'd better admit it now, or you'll regret it. It's also a clear sign that Intel has about had it with Microsoft as a partner, and doesn't mind kicking sand into their server space to show it.

And finally, anything that moves the world towards Linux, benefits Sun. There are Linux wrappers (lxrun) that allow you to run under Solaris, so porting software from Linux to Solaris is a no-brainer, and no-port for that matter (www.sunfreeware.com). lxrun is currently on Intel, and its only a matter of time before its on SPARC.
