IDX in Shanghai:

"Identix, a leading U.S. biometric authentication technology developer, and Zksoftware, a major Chinese software company, have signed an agreement to jointly promote biometric authentication in China. Identix will introduce various security products including fingerprint scanners. The two companies will establish a plant in the Pudong new area of Shanghai, an emerging financial and trade zone, to produce biometric authentication devices." (Xinhua General News Service, October 27, 1999.)

I think this is a serious announcement if it means building a plant over there. I assume the Chinese company produces the hardware under license, and IDX provides the software.
