SBC DOES have CDMA and carries Qualcomm handsets. Knew I wasn't hallucinating... Just got off the phone with an SBC cellular sales rep here in Austin--was informed that SBC's Austin and Houston networks are CDMA, whereas Dallas and San Antonio are TDMA. According to the rep, their CDMA frequencies are in the 800 and 1900 frequency bands. Can't imagine they use both bands in the same city (!), BWDIK. Roaming in the 5-state area is allowed, and of course is analog based outside CDMA areas (or for TDMA customers coming into Austin or Houston). Rep says CDMA net in Austin has been operating for 2 years. Crazy quilt!
