Michael,
Cascade management announced during their conference call major ATM design wins with many of the Inter/Local Exchange Carriers, including AT&T WorldNet, Bell Atlantic, Nynex, MCI, and LDDS WorldCom. All of these wins came at the expense of Newbridge Networks. It appears Cascade's products have an edge over NN's. As far as frame relay is concerned, Cascade is also a well-known leader.
The majority of Cascade's wins are from American carriers (although they are slowly expanding internationally), does Newbridge compete better oveseas? Do you have a breakdown of their revenues by geographic area? Does Newbridge also compete in the enterprise ATM arena (i.e., against Fore Systems)? Cascade, by the way, does not, but the Ascend merger may change that.
Finally, the Ascend merger respresents a great opportunity for Cascade, and if I were running Cascade, I would be happy also.
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Cheers
