I read that article about all those calls falling due "in the money"..... but where was all the chaos ? The normal way of settling an option that is expiring in-the-money is to close out the position; the call writer bids the option's in-the-money value and the holder is happy to settle for cash.

I wish there was some way of finding out how many of those option holders insisted exercising their options. Does anyone know whether that information is available ?
